NCC Recruit

Recruiting talent and skills has never been so challenging in Further Education. With the increasing costs of recruitment and the requirement for specialist vocational skills, we are looking at additional options for the current national recruitment strategy.

The NCC is bringing the skills and talent of the UK Armed Forces to the FE Sector. This will provide you with access to highly skilled Vocational Experts, Training Professionals, Project Managers and Operational and Strategic Directors.

What is it?
The List (est. 1993) is a well established networking and recruitment website. The people come from the UK Armed Forces, the ex-UK Armed Forces Community, serving and former members of the Volunteer Reserves and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

Currently The List has over 20,000 members who utilise their membership for finding work when they leave the services and for networking with each other to benefit from their experiences of resettlement. With 25,000 people leaving the Army, Air Force and Navy each year, this membership base increases every day.

The personal affinity a Service Leaver has with the Armed Forces is for life. Their relationship with The List is not just when they first leave; they utilise the networking opportunity to support others and to open up business development opportunities for years to come.

Why haven't I heard of this before?
Responsibility for The List was taken over by the NCC Group in April 2008. Prior to this, it was utilised mainly by networking groups and supportive employers who intentionally recruit Service Leavers and reservists for their skills and aptitude.

Our future strategy for The List is to provide a scheme to harness and make available the talent of some 1 million former members of the Armed Services, including the Volunteer Reserves and cadets, for the direct advantage of employers, professional bodies and the individuals themselves.

Who can access this?
Access to The List is being made available to employers from all sectors. However, it is firstly being provided to the FE Sector due to the synergy with the wide ranging skill sets of Service Leavers and that of FE requirements.

Why Value Service Leavers?
Member of The List are technical and vocational experts and are a rich source of talent for the FE sector. Not only do Service Leavers (SLs) have exceptional skills, but they have benefited from one of the most comprehensive through life training programmes in the world.

Everyone who has been a member of the Armed Forces has benefited from a minimum of £20,000 of training. They are from a culture of learning and throughout their time in the services have been responsible for the training and development of others.

In addition to all this, to support their resettlement, SLs are provided with a substantial retraining budget to adapt their skills to a new career.

There is no official national database of the 25,000 personnel who leave the Armed Services every year. The List provides one of the few opportunities for employers to engage with this exceptional pool of talent. Employers, who have successful recruited SLs, repeatedly provide testament to the generic attitudes & behaviours which are recognisable and globally sought after.

• Think, plan and lead strategically • Prioritise & direct work

• Delegate with trust & confidence • Are personally motivated & driven

• Create mutual trust • Are people centric

• Inspire, empower & motivate • Tolerant, responsive, adaptable, approachable

• Develop potential in people & teams • Turn vision into success

• Develop loyalty, integrity and honour • Create a winning culture

• Readily assume responsibility and accountability • Listen & seek advice/guidance

How does it work?
Our commitment is to bringing quality employment opportunities to the registered members. The List is not a recruitment agency. It’s an opportunity to engage with a highly skilled pool of talent. The cost of attracting new staff via this route represents only a fraction of typical recruitment cost.

We recommend you utilise The List as part of your wider recruitment strategy.

There are two stages for engagement:

Post a Job
We will give you access to members of The List by posting your vacancies on the job board. All response handling and selection will be managed by you.

Search & Selection
In addition to your job posting, we will network with the members of The List to find you suitable candidates. This service will be provided on a no-win-no-fee basis, only charged if the candidate recommended by us takes up employment
